Workshop Anthem Selections for the Saturday Evening Concert

The choral workshop will focus on 10 choral anthems by Dr. Joseph Martin. Many of which are written under his pseudonyms/nom de plumes, including Michael Barrett. To get the most out of this event, participants are encouraged to become familiar with the music in advance. The workshop itself will focus on fine-tuning the repertoire, shaping musical details, and building ensemble artistry, rather than learning notes from scratch. To support singers, First Congregational UCC will host a series of preparatory rehearsals, so everyone arrives confident, prepared, and ready to make music at a high level. The rehearsal schedule can be found HERE.

Below are the 10 anthems the workshop will focus on, which will also be featured in the Saturday evening concert.

These song selections may change slightly, at this time these are the expected songs of the workshop/clinic. Final selections will be determined with Dr. Martin as we look at the voicing our registered participants.

How to get your music?

There is a $10 music fee to due at the time of registration. All music will be provided by First Congregational. Other than the $10 music fee, there is no other additional costs for the workshop. The cost of the workshop and bringing Dr. Martin to Alpena is sponsored by the First Congregational Church UCC, Alpena, MI. The music, has been partially sponsored by friends and members to reduce the cost of attendance to only $10. We are deeply grateful to our friends and sponsors for accomplishing this monumental task! We don't want cost to be an inhibitor to attendance, we want anyone who loves to sing to have the chance to be here!

Music will be available for pick up at 201 S. 2nd Ave, Alpena, MI 49707 ONLY after the music has been purchased and participants have been notified that it's ready. Notification will be sent via email or text, depending on your preference when you register.

If you live out of town, we will mail the music (at your request only) to you for the cost of shipping which is $13.00 for a flat rate, padded envelope. The music director will make arrangements with you to receive the payment for shipping (via PayPal or mail a check to the church) and to confirm the address for shipping.

I'd like to purchase a black folder to hold my music.

Unbounded energy and celebration characterize this contemporary choral. Full of rhythmic flair, this anthem is an engine of praise for both smaller ensembles and choirs that enjoy variety in their musical offerings.
